Community Caseworker

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and group support to participants, delivering information, guidance, and training to aid their journey towards employment, education, and a life free from crime.
  • Engage and case manage participants, offering advocacy, mentoring, advice, and training tailored to their needs to support skills development and progression.
  • Conduct initial assessments and create action plans; deliver both group and individual activities as part of participant interventions.
  • Collaborate with community, voluntary sector, and mainstream ETE services to ensure comprehensive support for overcoming barriers and advancing participants.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with new participants, helping them understand the available benefits and support activities.
  • Offer services in various community and voluntary sector venues to ensure broad accessibility.
  • Identify learning needs, plan training, and develop supportive relationships to enable participant progress. Record and manage activities and outcomes using CRM systems.
  • Job-match and broker employment opportunities; continuously seek to improve service delivery and personal performance.
  • Network, market, and promote services to partners and participants. Maintain CRM updates and handle related administrative tasks, including report-writing and data analysis.

Dimensions:

  • Customers include offenders on licence or community sentences, National Probation Service officers, community and voluntary sector organisations, employers, specialist providers, and internal colleagues.
  • No direct line management or budget responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in intensive support for individual progression is crucial; relevant qualifications in Information Advice and Guidance or teaching are desired.

Key Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a target-driven environment, focusing on participant outcomes.
  • High-level guidance skills for delivering effective one-to-one and group sessions.

Experience:

  • Background in working with offenders or marginalized individuals in training, guidance, or counselling.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of offender rehabilitation, desistance theory, and local and national ETE opportunities.
  • Familiarity with National Probation Services or HM Prison environments.

Personal Style:

  • Warm, empathetic approach with the ability to build supportive relationships that aid progression to education, training, and employment while supporting desistance from crime.
